Jaguarundi to niewielkie dzikie koty o zazwyczaj czarnej lub szarawej sierści. To zwierzęta nocne. Możnaby było pomyśleć, że jaguarundi są podobne do jaguarów. Jednak tak nie jest. Jaguarundi są mniejsze i nie są cętkowane.
W dodatku jaguary nie zostały udomowione przez Indian, tak jak jaguarundi.
Jaguarundi żywią się zazwyczaj niektórymi gryzoniami i większymi owadami, ale nie pogardzą także owocami. Na wolności jaguarundi występują w Ameryce Południowej i Środkowej.
